A complex and demanding vintage
A complex and demanding vintage
The first months of winter were characterized by warmer weather and lower rainfall than usual for the time of year. This situation was reversed thanks to the abundant rains that arrived at the beginning of the year. Budding occurred uniformly in mid-April in the context of a dry spring with some episodes of frost that affected part of the vineyard. In the management of the vineyard, which is organic, efforts were focused on the management of plant cover and phytosanitary control. During the summer, dry and warm conditions, together with a heatwave at the end of August, caused the grapes to ripen earlier than usual. The average annual temperature was higher than normal with a change in the Winkler zone. Before the harvest began, there were several episodes of heavy rain, which complicated the decision-making process prior to picking the fruit. Finally, the harvest of this plot took place on September 23.
The character of Leza
The character of Leza
Under the influence of the Sierra de Toloño mountains, a unique wine-growing landscape flourishes. Small plots of century-old vineyards with wide genetic variability. Mainly Tempranillo vineyards interspersed with Garnacha, Graciano, Benedicto, Viura, Mazuelo, Garro, and Maturana Tinta vines, among others. The terrain, with different altitudes and orientations, contributes to the creation of unique microclimates that combine Atlantic and Mediterranean influences. Loamy-silty soils with high limestone content. Aiurri 2023 is a wine from the village of Leza in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. The expression of each plot remains intact until the end of the aging process. The complete blend defines the authenticity and viticultural essence of Leza.

The essence of each vineyard
The essence of each vineyard
The grapes for Aiurri 2023 were harvested by hand after an initial selection of bunches in the vineyard itself. Subsequently, in the winery, a double selection was carried out: of bunches and berries. Gravity-fed production allows us to respect the raw material as much as possible, and vinification by plot enables us to bring the particular characteristics of each site to the wine. We work with spontaneous fermentation and gentle extraction at carefully controlled temperatures. Aiurri 2023 has been aged for eighteen months in French oak barrels of different sizes. After blending the plots, the wine was aged in concrete tanks for two months. For added protection, the wine contains sulfites. Finally, it was bottled in the spring of 2025.
