A TOUR AROUND AIURRI

AIURRI

AIURRI comes from the Basque language and its meaning is character, strength, identity.

Rioja Alavesa

The project is based on the search for the essence of small plots of old vineyards that grow at the foot of the Sierra de Toloño in a land, Rioja Alavesa, which is one of the wine-growing areas of reference in our country.

More than 4,700 years of history where the passage of different cultures, ways of working and survival have made the Rioja Alavesa an area of confluence that has been able to respect tradition and learn from modernity, maintaining a commitment to quality and continuous effort in search of excellence.

The municipality: Leza

Leza is a privileged village in the Rioja Alavesa region that has large masses of vegetation and a great biological diversity. Olive trees, holm oaks and aromatic plants are part of the ecosystem and, together with the vineyards, make up the landscape of the area.

In this environment, AIURRI is born, the character of a magical place where wine and its culture reach every corner.

Arrival at Rioja Alavesa

After years of studying and learning about the best locations, the main vineyards and the best varieties in the Rioja Alavesa, in 2020 we arrived in Leza, one of the smallest villages in Alava (220 habitants) able to excite with its environment and its wine and cultural richness that coexist with vestiges of the Copper Age.

Beginning of the winery remodeling works. During the months of July and August, efforts were focused on conditioning the winemaking area to be able to carry out the tasks required for the grape harvest season.
In September the viticulture team carried out the first grape harvest in Rioja Alavesa.
From October, work will resume on the refurbishment and adaptation of the building.

Selections of plots

In search of the viticultural and oenological potential of Leza, we began to acquire vineyard plots in the same municipality.

Project for the recovery of the old vineyards in the area.
During the first months of the year, until July, work continued on the transformation of the building: adaptation of the barrel area with double height, conditioning of the subway tunnel that connects the two buildings, laboratory area, or the opening of a window to the Sierra de Toloño on the second floor, among other works.

We have expanded our in-depth study and knowledge of the soils, climate and profile of the different biotypes in the estates with old vines that give the wines a differentiating character.

Until the month of May, the remodeling work will be focused on the renovation of the facades of both buildings, replacing the existing stone with local stone to give the building an identity. The offices, tasting and meeting rooms, locker rooms and office are also being restored.
